Kyocera reported a net income of $1.07 billion on revenue of $12.9 billion for the fiscal year that ended March 31. The company said that demands for handsets, flat panel TVs and other equipment “expanded steadily, particularly in the first half of fiscal 2008.” The company posted net sales of $12.3 billion, up less than 1% from fiscal year 2007.

The group forecast net sales of $14.7 billion in the current fiscal year, a 14% increase, on expectations of increased sales of handsets, ceramic products and solar panels.

In a separate announcement, the company announced that it earned its eighth consecutive recycling award from the City of San Diego's Environmental Services Department (ESD). Based in Kyoto, the company has handset subsidiaries in the San Diego area.

The company said the Directors Recycling Award is one of the city's highest environmental honors and marks Kyocera’s fifteenth environmental award from the city to date — the most of any business in San Diego, according to the ESD.

The company said it recycled more than 430,000 pounds of paper, plastic, electronic and other waste in 2007.
