During Qwest Communication’s analyst conference yesterday, CEO Ed Mueller reportedly said that he is looking to expand the company’s current wireless reseller program beyond its current relationship with Sprint Nextel.

According to Reuters, Mueller said, “We need a wireless partnership that is different than the one we have today. We have a hole in wireless.”

Mueller was short on details of what a “different” partnership would mean; Qwest could be looking to partner with another wireless carrier or simply renegotiating the terms of its partnership with Sprint. Currently, Qwest buys service from Sprint and then resells it to customers. He did note that only 6% of Qwest’s wireline customers buy wireless service from the company, and that he feels the company would be an attractive partner for any wireless carrier.

He was also clear that the company is not looking into wireless infrastructure of its own.
