The cable operator Cox Communications has started using the mobile virtual private network from NetMotion Wireless for its 3,500 field service technicians.

NetMotion's mobile VPN maintains a secure connection for remote workers as they move between Wi-Fi and cellular networks, the company says. About 1,000 companies and other organizations use the product. The Cox deployment includes NetMotion's Mobility XE Mobile VPN with the company's policy management module for remote management of devices and applications.

"At Cox, we recognize that our field personnel should be focused on our customers and not on the challenges typically experienced using wireless devices and networks," said Al Briggs, director mobile solution services for Cox Communications.  "NetMotion Wireless software helps us overcome everyday wireless coverage gaps and interruptions. Their solution is helping to make our field service operation more efficient, ultimately helping us to deliver better service to our customers."
