The Danish magazine Mobil leaked photos of a forthcoming Android-based mobile phone from Sony Ericsson. Code-named “Rachael,” the new phone reportedly will expand on Sony Ericsson's existing XPERIA line and be available some time this year.
According to Mobil, the phone will run on Qualcomm's QSD8250 Snapdragon platform, with processor speeds up to 1 GHz, and HSPA-speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. The phone comes equipped with an 8-megapixel camera with auto focus, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, mini-USB connector and a highly responsive touch screen.
Pictures of Sony Ericsson’s Android device come as the open source OS enjoys a flurry of recent press. Last week, T-Mobile launched the myTouch 3G, the successor to T-Mobile’s first Android handset, the G1.
Rumors of Android-based Samsung and Motorola handsets also have been cited in recent months.
