AT&T Launches a Pair of Sony Ericsson Handsets

By Andrew Berg

Sony Ericsson today launched two new phones with AT&T: the Sony Ericsson C905a Cyber-shot and the W518a Walkman. The c905a Cyber-shot is a cameraphone, and the W518a Walkman focuses on music and social connectivity.

The C905a Cyber-shot boasts an 8.1-megapixel camera, the highest resolution in a cameraphone from AT&T. The camera features face detection, auto focus, xenon flash and GPS tagging. Perhaps most notably, the C905a looks more like a digital camera than it does a phone.

The W518a Walkman phone offers a new UI for the use of Facebook, conversational messaging, interactive music features and a 3.2 mega-pixel camera. The phone features a standard flip-phone form factor.

Both the C905a Cyber-shot and W518a Walkman will be available in AT&T stores or online on July 19. The Sony Ericsson C905a will be available for $179.99 and the W518a for $49.99, both after mail-in rebate with a two-year service agreement.

I was about as impressed with attempts to integrate mobile with this year's Super Bowl as I was with the Green Bay Packers’ effort during their NFC divisional playoff loss to the New York Giants.

In Other News: Patents

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
