Report: Dell Working on MID

Loading...

A smartphone might not be all that Dell is working on in the wireless space. Dell engineers also have been developing a mobile Internet device (MID), The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday.

Citing unidentified sources, the report says the Android-based device is a little larger than the iPod touch but doesn’t have cellular phone capabilities. MIDs, a category heavily supported by Intel, fall somewhere between mobile phones and laptop computers. Dell reportedly is using ARM-based chips.

Dell’s designs in the mobile market has been a source of interest since Ron Garriques, former head of Motorola’s phone division, joined the company in 2007.
