MMS Server Gets Social Networking

Loading...

The latest software from 724 Solutions, Seamless Messaging MMS Edition, is designed to help operators increase premium services by connecting multimedia messaging with social networking and other person-to-person communications.

MMS Edition runs atop 724’s application server X-treme Multiservice Platform.  Previous versions of the server only supported MMS for communications between applications and from applications to users, explained Farooq Ali, vice president of product management.

The technology for personal MMS is not new, however, in the past there was little demand.  That could change with the rise of social networking and user-generated content, Ali said.  But it’s up to network operators to decide how deep to customize such services. For example, users could make individual decisions about where to route messages based on content types, he said.

Currently, 724 offers SMS, MMS and enterprise IM connected to Microsoft servers, along with consumer IM connected to GoogleTalk and the ability to build custom connections.  Application interfaces to social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, as well as enterprise IM from Lotus Sametime and consumer IM from AOL, MSN and Yahoo! will be supported in future versions, Ali added.

“We believe that bridging all messaging domains together will allow carriers to be able to add new types of services: advertising-powered messaging, messaging protection, message personalization/stencils, message avatars, and allow them to get more from their MMS investments,” he said.

The software is available now and is priced by a transactions-per-second model.
