• Starhome announced that it is uniting Gemalto's SIM/OTA applications with its server logic to enable operators to build on existing inbound and outbound roaming services as well as offer enhanced capabilities for future services. Starhome has already incorporated Gemalto's SIM/OTA facilities into its Intelligent Preferred Network solution, which promises to allow mobile operators to manage subscribers' registration process as they roam in visited networks.
• ROK Entertainment announced it has bought a 51% stake in LA-based mobile video producer Fun Little Movies. Under the terms of the agreement, ROK and FLM will jointly offer operators made-for-mobile content. ROK said the acquisition was completed in a combination of cash and shares, exact financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
• The GSA has published the GSM/3G Network Update, which confirms that 154 HSDPA networks have launched commercial service in 71 countries, almost double the number in a similar GSA survey 12 months ago (79 commercial networks in 45 countries as of November 2006). The GSA recorded 61 HSDPA networks entering commercial service so far in 2007, delivering mobile broadband access to an additional 20 countries. Another 41 HSDPA networks are in various stages of deployment, bringing the total number of HSDPA commitments to 195 networks in 85 countries.
