• Single Touch Interactive, a mobile application provider, announced it has purchased mobile marketing and technology firm Soapbox Mobile. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Single Touch's abbreviated dialing codes allow consumers to access information on products and services via any mobile phone, and download content and audio products through voice services. "The combination of Single Touch's cross-carrier ADCs and Soapbox's campaign management solutions enable us to provide customers with a superior overall experience," Soapbox president Dan Flanegan, said in a statement.
• Ericsson announced that it has been selected by Bhutan Telecom (BTL) to supply a WCDMA/HSPA network for the remote mountain kingdom. Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will supply an HSPA-enabled network, including WCDMA radio access equipment, all-IP core and transmission. Ericsson will also be responsible for network design, deployment and integration of BTL's existing GSM network. Rollout is expected to begin in November.
• AT&T has announced that the United States Postal Service (USPS) has selected it to support the agency's initiative to wirelessly enable enterprise applications for more efficient operations. As part of this initiative, AT&T will initially provide new wireless data devices and services to 5,400 employees nationwide. AT&T's wireless solution for USPS includes BlackBerry 8800 series handsets for postal managers and key staff. Initially, employees equipped with the new wireless handsets will have access to e-mail and other postal applications wirelessly, as they have since 2001 when USPS began using wireless data services. USPS will implement additional applications based on the needs of the organization.
• Alianza, a provider of IP-based Unified Communications Applications, has launched the PowerPlatform v3.0, promising the first hosted, fully-integrated IP-based platform delivering API customizable Unified Communications applications, such as IP telephony, via SaaS for broadband service providers. Alianza says its PowerPlatform v3.0 can be easily private labeled and launched within 30 days with no capital expenditure.
