AT&T has announced two new multimedia phones: the Pantech duo and the Samsung a737.

Named for its dual slider design and keyboards, the Pantech duo features both a full Qwerty keyboard and a numeric keypad in one slim device. The handset is UMTS/HSDPA-enabled to run on AT&T's BroadbandConnect network. The duo is also one of the first Windows Mobile 6 devices offered by AT&T.

"AT&T business and consumer customers alike now have a device that matches their form-factor preference – whether it's a phone keypad or QWERTY keyboard," said Kent Mathy, president of Business Markets Group at AT&T, in a statement.

The Samsung a737 is an ultra thin slider phone with a focus on multimedia and entertainment features. Based on the a717 and a727 phones, the a737 is available in four color combinations: black/orange, black/blue, black/red and black/lime, includes a 1.3-megapixel camera with video functions and offers access to AT&T's multimedia services. The handset also includes stereo Bluetooth 2.0 technology and support for external memory microSD cards up to 4GB.

"Consumers demand slim, visually appealing phones that can run the latest applications. The a737 slides easily into that description," said Carlton Hill, vice president of Product Development for AT&T's wireless unit, in a statement.

Both handsets are available now at all AT&T outlets. The Pantech Duo sells for $200 and the Samsung a737 for $50 after a mail-in rebate, both with qualifying contracts.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
