T-Mobile has launched a new mobile Internet search function on its T-Zones platform. The mobile search function is designed for mobile devices with smaller screens, in that it returns answers instead of links.

The new search is being launched as part of a partnership with Medio Systems in five European countries. The mobile search function already has been deployed in the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. The service also will be rolled out in the Czech Republic later this month.

Under the agreement, mobile advertising also will form part of the new T-Mobile service.

Ingo Schneider, vice president of Mobile Internet at T-Mobile, said "T-Mobile is very pleased to have Medio as a partner for mobile content search. Mobile Search plays an ever increasing role in our customer's use of the mobile Web, particularly to drive the relevance and use of our large catalogue of mobile content offered on our t-zones portal."

T-Mobile is planning to support mobile advertising in the form of sponsored links based on Medio's mobile search advertising solution that is connected to the open advertising marketplace. Medio's mobile advertising solution is based on the same analytics that drive the answers on the search platform. In addition, t-zones mobile content search will also learn individual subscriber preferences around recurrent search themes as a way to further simplify the mobile search experience and add value to the end-user.
