Nokia announced plans to integrate social networking technology from Twango into its S60 platform. Nokia announced plans to acquire Twango in July.

The company said the move will enable it to bring community-based applications to a wider range of mobile phones faster.

Stephen Johnston, senior business development manager at Nokia, said in a speech at a trade fair in Helsinki, that the role of social networking and community-based applications will become "the underlying layer, across everything" going forward.

Nokia is also reportedly considering outsourcing the development of DVB-H chips for mobile TV, canceling its in-house production. DigiTimes reported that "chipmakers, including Texas Instruments, DiBcom, Newport Media and Siano Mobile Silicon, are indicated as potential partners for the DVB-H chips with Nokia." The paper cited unnamed local sources.

The move doesn't seem too far afield after the company announced late last month that it plans to transfer many aspects of its chip production units, including staff and technology to STMicroelectronics, Broadcom and Infineon Technologies.
