While Motorola posted an expected loss, LG announced that it earned 385 billion won ($420 million) during the second quarter. For the same quarter last year, the South Korean electronics maker posted a loss of 9.7 billion won.
Total sales rose 1.7% to 5.9 trillion won ($6.4 billion), while handset sales rose 27% to 2.7 trillion won ($2.9 billion) from a year ago. LG said it shipped 19.1 million phones during the quarter.
