British Telecom (BT) announced that it is developing a wireless communication technology package for the Sony Play Station Portable (PSP). The system will allow users to make voice calls from their PSP over a Wi-Fi network. The PSP comes with a built-in Wi-Fi adapter.
BT says it plans to roll out the service in Europe, the Middle East and Africa with the support of Sony's gaming division responsible for PlayStation products in territories that use the PAL TV color system.
There are no plans yet for the added services to be available in the United States, Japan or Asia.
Sales of the PSP have yet to reach Sony's expectations. The company originally predicted it would ship 12 million units but cut the number by a quarter at the close of the fiscal year in March.
