An Intel executive touted upcoming mobile innovations, including a new iteration of its Centrino mobile technology and WiMAX products, at the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco.
Intel's next-generation Centrino technology, codenamed Santa Rosa, delivers better wireless connectivity, security and graphics, Sean Maloney, Intel's executive vice president, said during his keynote address. The technology will consist of an improved mobile processor and a new graphic chipset (codenamed Crestline). The new iteration also will feature an IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter.
The platform, according to Maloney, will debut in the second half of 2007.
Intel intends to launch a WiMAX PCMCIA card in the second half of this year to enable the delivery of WiMAX technology to laptop PCs.
A single-chip, multi-band Wi-Fi/WiMAX radio also is on tap to facilitate Wi-Fi or WiMAX connections on laptops worldwide.
