A planet that's getting smaller all the time is about to get even smaller. Total Call International announced plans to introduce a new wireless service, Total Call Mobile, aimed at the expanding multicultural ethnic market.

The new service, to be released in early 2006, is designed especially to suit the needs of the multicultural ethnic population.

Jeff Kapner, Total Call's vice president for marketing, says the company will target Asia, Latin America and Europe and vows to offer call-in and Web-based support in any language someone desires.

"There are people in this country who are native language speakers and are calling all sorts of countries of origin," Kapner says.

Total Call Mobile, which uses the Sprint PCS network, will allow users a way to place direct-dial calls internationally. The company says the service will give users the best international long-distance rates available.

"Rates can change daily," Kapner says, "and we're always monitoring that because that's our business."

Total Call Mobile says it will introduce a number of features that are designed to appeal to users of different cultural and language backgrounds, including month-to-month bills in various languages. Kapner says the company wasn't ready to go public with rates, saying only that they'll be "highly competitive."

Total Call Mobile says it will introduce other features in the future, such as in-language handsets and content. Once available, users can download language-specific news, games and other entertainment features.

Total Call Mobile also will be offered as a part of bundled service together with long-distance and Internet service from Total Call International.

In a statement earlier issued this week, Total Call Mobile announced the addition of Steven Rosen as the new vice president of wireless sales. He will be responsible for guiding Total Call Mobile into the MVNO market early in 2006.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
