Alltel is hoping to satisfy the needs of last-minute shoppers this holiday season by offering music ringtones and other downloadable applications from the Sony Music Box via gift cards.
The purchase of a $10 Alltel Axcess Gift Card gives the recipient eight credits toward Sony Music Box downloads. The Sony Music Box consists of MusicTones, ringtones, graphics and wallpapers.
Earlier this month, Alltel announced its official spin-off plans for its wireline unit, which when complete will make the carrier a pure wireless player.
The $9.1 billion deal calls for Alltel to spin off its wireline unit and merge it with Valor Communications Group, which will create a wireline company focused on the rural sections of the United States. At the time of the announcement, Alltel said its wireline territory complements Valor's geographic footprint.
Alltel's wireless business will include a customer base of roughly 11 million, which makes it the fifth-largest wireless carrier in the United States.
