AT&T, Verizon Wireless Asset Swap Approved
By Teresa von Fuchs
WirelessWeek - March 28, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has approved an asset swap between AT&T and Verizon Wireless as part of Verizon's acquisition of Rural Cellular and AT&T’s Dobson Communications acquisition.

Under the terms of the swap, AT&T will give Verizon licenses, network assets and subscribers in Kentucky, and AT&T will acquire some former Rural Cellular properties, including licenses, network assets and subscribers, in New York, Vermont and Washington, once Verizon’s acquisition is completed.

The two carriers agreed on the terms in December, under the FCC’s direction.

The FTC signed off on the asset swap as an early termination antitrust review, meaning the deal was completed before the end of the 30-day period required under antitrust law.
