LG Electronics has extended its relationship with Nuance Communications to ship its T9 and XT9 predictive text input products across LG’s portfolio of mobile phones.

The predictive text software supports a variety of applications to make it faster and easier for LG consumers to send text messages and e-mails, as well as quickly type URLs via any keypad format, including standard and touchscreen 12-key and qwerty keypads.

The companies say LG also will be taking greater advantage of Nuance’s extensive language support, currently over 80 languages and dialects worldwide including Chinese PTI (Phrasal Text Input) and SBI (Sentence Based Input), and Indic languages such as Hinglish, enabling LG to expand its predictive text offering into the mobile markets of China and India.

Other handsets that use Nuance’s T9 and XT9 include Samsung’s Behold, Blackjack, Instinct and Memoir. The Nokia E71 also uses XT9.
