Telstra is working with Ericsson, Qualcomm and Sierra Wireless to upgrade its Next G network, promising to nearly triple mobile broadband speeds using HSPA+.
By working with partners Ericsson, Qualcomm and Sierra Wireless, Telstra claims to be developing the world's first 21 Mbps-capable mobile broadband device, according to a Telstra spokesperson.
In addition to increasing data speeds, HSPA+ reduces latency, improves network capacity and user experience. The larger bandwidth supports more data-intensive applications.
Shipments of the devices for customer trials are expected to begin in coming months, with a commercial launch to follow. No financial details were disclosed.
