MySpace Adds Mobile Video Streaming, Facebook Next?
By Evan Koblentz
WirelessWeek - December 04, 2008

Social network MySpace said its users can now watch videos on mobile phones, enabled by technology partner RipCode.

Vice President and General Manager John Faith said the new feature is the first in a larger effort to extend MySpace beyond basic communications. Sharing music and using location-based services are next on the company’s roadmap, he said.

The new feature works on smartphones such as the LG Voyager, Motorola Q9, Nokia N95, Palm Centro, Research In Motion BlackBerry Bold and Samsung Instinct. There is not yet an Apple iPhone version, but wider handset support is coming soon, Faith added.

The mobile version of MySpace receives 3 billion page views from 10 million users per month.

Rival site Facebook lets its users upload videos from mobile devices but not actually watch them.  Facebook officials did not reply this week when asked about their video roadmap.

Virgin Mobile USA also announced social networking options today, including Connect, which is a dashboard for Helio prepaid customers, and Mobile Lounge, which is its own community.
